Boxer Freezy MacBones Switches Nationality From Ghana To UK

Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy MacBones in the ring, has chosen to switch nationality to fight for Great Britain in a move that has surprised many.
MacBones gained popularity in Ghana and across the world after beating Darryl Sharp in only his second professional fight last month. Ghanaians were ecstatic at the thought of winning a world championship as soon as word of his triumph went viral.
However, boxer Freezy MacBones has changed his nationality from Ghana to the United Kingdom (UK), according to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). According to GBA President Abraham Neequaye, the boxer changed his nationality just before making his professional debut.
Mr Neequaye said that Freezy MacBones applied for a license from the GBA when he wanted to start boxing but decided at the last minute to compete as a UK citizen. The GBA President explained:
“We sent him a message, and they can check it from Freezy himself. Before he fought in the UK, he came to Ghana to get a Ghana Boxing Authority license. He came for our license but when he wanted to fight and they wanted to get a release letter from us, he changed it to fight for the British. He was supposed to come for a release letter from us but he said he wanted to fight as a UK national”.
The GBA President maintains that if the fighter chooses not to represent Ghana, there is nothing the boxing organisation can do. He asserted:
“If the person has our license and he wants to fight and then puts it down and picks another to fight under that license, how do you expect me to go and beg this gentleman to come, no. We have a lot of boxers here that we need to develop”.
Freezy MacBones’ Backstory
Seth Gyimah was formerly a mason in Ghana who arrived in London in 2012 with no boxing experience. He wore boxing gloves for the first time in 2017 and was told he was too old to begin a boxing career. In April, the 33-year-old boxer competed in just his second professional match at the Copper Box Arena in London, where he faced veteran Darryl Sharp and thoroughly demolished him.
Despite having a crude fighting style, Freezy MacBones used tenacity together with hard blows to defeat Sharp by a unanimous decision.
Seth Gyimah’s journey has been the prototypical “rags to riches” story, and after he dominated his most recent match, the powerful boxer has been rightfully trending on social media.
